Crystal Palace National Sports Centre

• A world-class and unique icon. Opened in 1964 and a fixture of British sport ever since, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is a modernist landmark with a rich cultural and sporting heritage.
• A once-in-a-generation moment. After 60 years, the 15-hectare estate is being comprehensively renewed; with planning approved, a Tier-1 contractor appointed and initial funding confirmed to deliver the works to the main sports centre.
• Central London on the doorstep. With three train stations within 10 minutes’ walk of the Centre, central London is reachable in 20 minutes, with easy links to the wider south-east including national and international transport hubs.
• Parkland setting. Located within the historic Crystal Palace Park, the Centre benefits from a unique landscape setting and forms part of a wider programme of investment and renewal across the park.

WHAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING

Fully funded by the Mayor, and underway now:

• Full refurbishment of the Grade II* listed main sports centre.
• Return of swimming through the refurbishment of the 1,500-spectator aquatic hall, which includes a 25m pool, 50m pool and diving pool, creating a fully accessible and flexible facility for elite competition, community use and training.
• Modernisation of the 2,000-capacity indoor arena accommodating multiple courts for indoor sports including badminton, volleyball and basketball.
• A new 190-station gym, a gymnastics and dry-dive centre and dedicated studio spaces.
• A six-court outdoor padel centre, 3×3 basketball courts, five-a-side artificial pitches, a full-size artificial multi-sports pitch and two grass pitches.
• Full decarbonisation of the Centre with a 97% reduction in carbon emissions through a comprehensive all-electric solution that includes PVs, air source heat pumps and building fabric upgrades.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Stadium

Our vision is to re-establish Crystal Palace as London’s premier athletics destination and the capital’s only dedicated, full-time athletics stadium. Building on the Mayor of London’s £100 million investment programme, the stadium project will create a revitalised, year-round venue capable of hosting elite competition, community sport, training, events and wider commercial activity. The renovation and modernisation of the existing facilities, completion of the seating bowl and enhancements to the in-field for both athletics and other sporting uses will create a flexible and sustainable destination, with the potential to attract significant visitor numbers and generate long-term economic, social and sporting value.

We would welcome conversations with parties who share in this vision, can deliver on both community and commercial opportunities, and are able to commit at least £25m initial investment, with a credible strategy to structure and secure the remaining funding required to realise this vision.
